Another red haired girl is Pippi Longstocking. Although the cover of Sluefoot Sue (Pecos Bill's girlfriend) has red hair and so does one on the cover of a Rapunzel book.
Red hair and freckles brings to mind Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. But it isn't about settling the US. It's about an orphan that is adopted by a brother and sister on Prince Edward Island.

yes i read a lot of those books like these happy folden years and on the banks of plum creek and the first four years little house in the big woods and more. She has more of golden hair and the books are more about her life . it starts out she is a little girl then it ends with her marryin and the four years after her marrigeDoes anyone remember a book like laura ingles wilder??
Little House in the Big Woods is the first book in the series of "Little House" books by Wilder...unless you're talking about Pippi Longstocking by Lingren.
